Where’s Obama’s Populist Outrage Over Conan’s $45M deal?

with 2 comments

A reader asks a good question about O’Brien’s deal:

So a joker working for a company bailed out (indirectly) by the government gets $45 million — for failing.  Where’s the outrage, Captain Populist?

I don’t have any problem with O’Brien’s deal, though I wish he wasn’t getting the shaft (he hasn’t been great on The Tonight Show, but he’s funnier than Leno).

But if O’Brien was a Wall Street guy gettingt $45 million for failing, Obama would be all over it.

  1. Dude, seriously? Your comparing the bank bailouts to Conan getting released from his contract early. FAIL apples and oranges… How does taking tax payers money to give your employees bonuses for failing compare to getting screwed over by a company because someone else failed?

  2. Fist, I’m for Conan and I think Conan should get what is contractually do from NBC. and I like the fact that Conan took care of his people.

Second, I’m completely against the bailout and stimulus, and I’m so against any company that received tax dollar’s handing out any bonuses unless they have paid it back.

Third, I’m pointing out the double standard that people including our government target companies that did not receive tax payer dollars for handing out bonuses and trying to cap pay for top executives.

Why do people get upset at at CEO’s and top executives that get top dollars but look the other way when Hollywood people get the same money?

We need to let companies fail at all cost, that way the next company will know what not to do.
