Ala. woman lets daughter ride in box on top of van
WTF: LINK
ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van.
Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.
Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.

FTC: Bloggers must disclose paid reviews
I think this is a good idea…. I hate that you never know if you can trust what you read about product reviews. MSNBC also a little more indepth article over at computerworld.com
The Federal Trade Commission will require bloggers to clearly disclose any freebies or payments they get from companies for reviewing their products.
It is the first time since 1980 that the commission has revised its guidelines on endorsements and testimonials, and the first time the rules have covered bloggers. But the commission stopped short Monday of specifying how bloggers must disclose any conflicts of interest.
The FTC said its commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the final guidelines, which had been expected. Penalties include up to $11,000 in fines per violation.
The rules take effect Dec. 1.
60 minutes Coal Ash: 130 million Tons of Waste
Lesley Stahl had an interesting segment Sunday on the growing coal ash problem in the world. The EPA and the coal industry should be working to get this Toxic waste under control. How can they say coal is a “Clean” energy resource when it does this? LINK

Orlando Strip Club Gives Seniors Flu Shots
Amid the shiny stripper poles, strobe-lit stages and scantily-clad performers at Rachel’s Gentlemen’s Club, you’ll find Barbara and Sylvia, two old beauties who come for the free food and flu shots — and stay for the ambiance. Every year around this time, the flesh den in the small town of Cassleberry, north of Orlando, offers the shots in a setting way more exciting than a sterile doctor’s office. And the return of the complimentary lunch buffet has geriatrics coming in droves. whtq.com
They should give everyone flu shots… would be a great way to get people to get them… hell I might be more inclined.
Kids Who Get Spanked May Have Lower IQs
Researchers measured the children’s IQ initially, then again four years later. Those kids who hadn’t been spanked in the initial survey period scored significantly better on intelligence and achievement tests than those who had been hit. Among the 2-to-4-year-olds, the difference in IQ was five points; among the older kids, there was a 2.8-point gap. That association held after taking into account parental education, income and other environmental factors, says Straus. So how might getting spanked on the butt actually affect the workings of the brain? Straus notes that being spanked or hit is associated with fright and stress; kids who experience that kind of trauma have a harder time focusing and learning. time.com
Al Franken Reads the 4th Amendment to Justice Department Official
Glad Sen Franken (D-Minn) read the constitution to someone concerning the Patriot Act……
Noting that he received a copy of the Constitution when he was sworn in as a senator, he proceeded to read it to Kris, emphasizing this part: “no Warrants shall issue but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
“That’s pretty explicit language,” noted Franken, asking Kris how the “roving wiretap” provision of the Patriot Act can meet that requirement if it doesn’t require the government to name its target.
Kris looked flustered and mumbled that “this is surreal,” apparently referring to having to respond to Franken’s question. “I would defer to the other branch of government,” he said, referring to the courts, prompting Franken to interject: “I know what that is.”

What vote would you like to redo?
Rep. King: I don’t really go back and re-live that sort of thing. Some of the big votes that I’ve thought about, some of the jury’s still out. And at this point, maybe I’d answer that question another way, probably the singular vote that stands out that went against the grain, and it turns out to be the best vote that I cast, was my “no” vote to the $51.5 billion to [Hurricane] Katrina. That probably was my best vote. But as far as doing something different again, I don’t know.
The best vote you cast was to deny funding to the clean up of a natural disaster? WTF this guy needs to resign from congress and go away. thehill.com
